Tile Inspection Checklist: Key Points Beyond Flatness and Joints
Hollow Sound Check: Gently tap the center and corners of each tile with a hollow sound hammer. A crisp sound indicates a solid installation, while a hollow sound suggests a hollow space. A hollow area of no more than 5% per tile is acceptable, but hollow tiles in walkways must be redone.
Corner Inspection: Use a right-angle square to check if the wall corners are at a perfect 90-degree angle, with an error not exceeding 3mm. Otherwise, it may affect cabinet installation or aesthetics.
Slope Test (Bathroom): Sprinkle glass beads on the bathroom floor and observe if they all roll toward the drain to ensure smooth drainage without pooling.
Drain Check: Remove the drain cover and use a flashlight to inspect if the drain pipe is tightly connected to the drain, avoiding any gaps that could cause leaks.
Cutouts & Edging: Check if the cutouts for outlets and faucets are neat and if the edges are chipped. Ensure the transition between tiles and walls is smooth to prevent dirt accumulation.
Utility Markings: Have the workers mark the locations of water and electrical pipes on the tiles to avoid damaging them during future drilling.
Color & Damage Check: Inspect for noticeable color differences, cracks, or scratches, especially around corners and cutouts.
Floor Protection: After inspection, cover the floor with cardboard or old rugs to protect it from scratches during subsequent construction.
